Our Philosophy

Montessori for Toddlers strives to:

Open Communication

Provide open communication that includes parent conferences and educational evenings. Work closely with parents to support a healthy separation experience.

Inside & Outside

Provide a beautifully prepared environment, both inside the classroom and out in the garden that is safe, orderly, nurturing and inviting.

Hands on

Teach students through hands-on, individualized experiences. Instill in our students a love of learning

Recognize and appreciate the unique personality

Support the child’s desire to be independent. “I did it myself, Terese!” is often spoken with such joy that there is no doubt about the pride that is felt by the child.

Outdoor Exploration and Physical Coordination

Young children are encouraged to move their bodies using a wide range of fun play equipment including, climbing structures, slides, Jumperoo, low balance beams, parachute, and large sandbox. Toddlers develop self-confidence and coordination when they experience a variety of challenging outdoor activities.

Practical Life

These activities provide the means for children to become physically independent. Activities in this area may include learning to wash their hands, put on their shoes or hang up their jacket.  Care for their classroom, may include sweeping, cleaning a table, or wiping up spills.  Young children are capable of learning how to button, zip and buckle.  They also enjoy pouring, scooping and tweezing a variety of interesting materials in their classroom.

Math and Science

Early exposure to conceptual math, geometry, counting, and animal life cycles, physics, and toddler-appropriate science.  Provides a foundation for abstract thinking and practical life skills.

Through manipulatives, geometic blocks,  songs, and counting activities children will learn math and number concepts. Children will use math and science throughout their lives, and the development within the first four years is crucial as it sets the tone for every stage of development thereafter.

Art and Culture

We tell stories and read books about children, families and leaders who may be different from us. We learn about each other, and use art as a tool in our classroom to explore creative thinking, and celebrate the beauty of all our efforts in creating our unique artwork.  Creating global awareness, learning about children who are different from us, using art as a tool for growth in the classroom, and using multi-media activities for self-expression, while having fun helps to develop compassionate, community-minded members of society.

The Rich Classroom Environment

Various classroom themes are rotated throughout the school year and include Ocean Creatures, Garden/ Insects, Farm Animals, Winter Animals and Jungle and Rain forest. The books, songs, poems, puzzles and classroom materials,  provide many opportunities for learning about classification of animals in various habitats.
